জুরাইন কবরস্থানে গেলে একটি কবরের পরিচয় ফলকের উপর এমন একটি লেখা দেখা যাবে - মোসাম্মৎ সাফিয়া বেগম শহীদ মুক্তিযোদ্ধা আজাদের মা এই লেখা টি শুধুমাত্র একটি সাধারণ লেখা নয়, এটি একজন বীর মায়ের আবেগ।শহীদ সন্তানের প্রতি ভালোবাসা।যে সন্তান দেশমাতা ও জন্মদাত্রী মা উভয়ের জন্য গর্বের।১৯৪৬ সালের ১১ই জুলাই ঢাকা শহরের তৎকালীন সবচেয়ে ধনী পরিবারে জন্ম হয় আজাদের। তখন "আজাদি আজাদি "স্লোগানে মুখর হয়ে উঠেছিল ভারতবর্ষ। তাই বাবা-মা তার নাম রাখেন আজাদ।আজাদের বাবা পরবর্তীতে দ্বিতীয় বিয়ে করার করলে আজাদের মা এক কাপড়ে আজাদকে নিয়ে তাদের বাড়ি ছাড়েন।আজাদকে নিয়ে উঠেন মগবাজারের একটি বাসায়। সেখানে সন্তানকে একাই মানুষ করেন এই বীর মা। আজাদ করাচি থেকে স্নাতক সম্পন্ন করেন এবং ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে ১৯৭১ সালে আন্তর্জাতিক সম্পর্ক বিভাগের স্নাতকোত্তর সম্পন্ন করেন।১৯৭১ সালে আজাদের বন্ধুরা যখন আগরতলা থেকে গেরিলা প্রশিক্ষণ নিয়ে দেশে ফিরে আসে তখন তারা আজাদকে মুক্তিযুদ্ধে অংশগ্রহণ করার কথা জানায়। তখন আজাদ তাদেরকে বলে "সে তা

                    আমার কাছে স্বাধীনতার মানে স্বাধীনতা এই চার অক্ষরের শব্দের মাঝে রয়েছে সাগরসম বিশালতা। স্বাধীনতা মানে মুক্ত আকাশে উড়তে থাকা পাখি,যে পাখির একমাত্র সীমানা আকাশ। যে পাখি মানেনা কোনো বাধা।উন্মুক্ত ভাবে আকাশে উড়তে থাকে তার চেতনাকে সঙ্গী করে! আমার কাছে স্বাধীনতা মানে পাখির মতো আকাশে উড়তে থাকা। আমার কাছে স্বাধীনতা মানে কখনো কোকিলের মিষ্টি সুর, আবার কখনো দীপ্ত কন্ঠে অধিকার আদায়।আমার কাছে স্বাধীনতা মানে ভোরের আকাশে সূর্যের আলোর ছটা।আমার কাছে স্বাধীনতা মানে টগবগে রক্তের উত্তাপ যা শিরা উপশিরা বেয়ে পৌছে যাবে হ্রদয়ে।আমার কাছে স্বাধীনতা মানে জাদুঘরে ঝুলে থাকা আসাদের রক্তমাখা শার্ট, যা অন্তরে জাগায় কম্পন। স্বাধীনতার মানে বিশাল।স্বাধীনতা হতে পারে ব্যাক্তি স্বাধীনতা, জাতিগত স্বাধীনতা,শ্রেণীবিশেষের স্বাধীনতা।কখনো স্বাধীনতার মানে হচ্ছে নিজস্ব স্বকীয়তা রক্ষার লড়াই।স্বাধিকার থেকে স্বাধীনতার উন্মেষ হতে পারে।স্বাধীনতার মধ্যে রয়েছে মুক্তির পদচিহ্ন।স্বাধীনতা জাগায় অধিকারের সপ্ন।মূলত স্বাধিকারবোধের পূণাঙ্গ রূপই হচ্ছে স্বাধীনতা। বাংলা ও বাঙালির কাছে স্বাধীনতার মানে      বাঙালির কাছে স্বাধীনতার
